Tips for creating a wedding register

Glassware

Tip sheet
1. A set of glassware or crystal usually includes white and red wineglasses, a water goblet, and a champagne flute. Register for as many sets as you do china place settings.

2. Feel the balance and weight, and then choose a style that will make your table shine.

Lingo you need to know
WHITE WINEGLASS: A basic wineglass.

RED WINEGLASS: These have larger bowls than white wineglasses.

WATER GOBLET: Has a stem and comes in all shapes and sizes. Many have larger bowls than wineglasses.

CHAMPAGNE FLUTE: Taller and thinner than a wineglass.

PILSNER: Similar to pub pint glasses, with an elegant angle.

MARTINI GLASS: Classic and triangular.

BRANDY SNIFTER: This glass is all bowl, with a short stem and wide foot.

DOUBLE OLD-FASHIONED: Short glass with no stem, either round or square-shape.

HIGHBALL: Tall and narrow; used to serve mixed drinks

OTHER GLASSWARE: Many drinks have signature glasses including margarita, daiquiri, port, sherry, and cordial.

What to look for
- Crystal contains lead, while plain glass does not -- the higher the lead content, the clearer the crystal.

- When tapped lightly, crystal should have a bell-like sound, unlike the flat note you hear when tapping glass.

TIP Follow the Two-to-One Rule: If two parts on your table are ornate, such as your china and flatware, then the third part -- in this case crystal -- should be simple.
