Tips for creating a wedding register

Bed Linen

A dreamy bedroom can be a setting for pure romance. Now's your chance to get the bed you've always wanted -- and get others to pick up the tab!

Tip sheet
1. One of the hallmarks of quality bed linen is thread count. The higher the thread count the higher the quality

2. Also the more cotton, the better the sheet.

Lingo you need to know
THREAD COUNT: The number of yarns or threads (both lengthwise, called "warp," and crosswise, called "weft") in a square-inch of fabric. The higher the count, the tighter the weave, the softer the sheet -- and the higher the price.

DUVET COVER: Like a large pillowcase for a comforter.

FLANNEL: Often all-cotton, with a napped surface that produces a soft, fuzzy sheet.

KNIT: Plain cotton linens are also known as Jersey or T-shirt sheets.

MERCERIZED: Thread, yarn, or fabric that has undergone a finishing process, which increases its luster and smoothness.

PERCALE: A popular plain weave that is finely and closely woven, with a thread count typically from 180 to 200.

PINPOINT: The finest percale sheets with a thread count of 220 to 250.

SANFORIZED: Fabric that has been preshrunk to reduce shrinking after washing.

SATEEN: A soft all-cotton weave considered luxurious because of its 230- to 300-thread count.

Don't forget...
- Complete the look of your newlywed haven with a bedskirt, decorative pillows, drapes, and a throw.

- Keep bed linens in a well-ventilated closet, and store out-of-season linens with cedar to keep them moth-free.
